Plastic Surgery 101
What exactly is plastic surgery?
Plastic surgery refers to surgery consisting of a wide array of operations designed to restore or repair body parts to look normal. Plastic surgery can also be used to make body parts appear better or younger.
Plastic surgery can be performed to remove birthmarks or acne scars. Some commonly performed elective cosmetic surgery consists of liposuction, breast augmentation, face lift, and tummy tuck.
Liposuction
Liposuction (Lipoplasty) is a procedure where doctors sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from areas on the body, including thighs, knees, buttocks, upper arms, chin, neck, and cheeks.
Liposuction is not meant to be a substitute for dieting and exercise, but to remove areas of fat on the body that have not responded to traditional weight loss techniques.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation, or augmentation mammoplasty, is a procedure designed to increase the size and shape of a woman's breast.
Face Lift
A face lift, also known as rhytidectomy drastically improves visible signs of
aging by tightening underlying muscles and removing excess fat. A face lift
tries to counter-act the signs of aging that the face has to endure, including
the effects of gravity over time, exposure to the sun, and stress.
Tummy Tuck
Tummy tuck is considered major surgery that removes excess skin and fat from the lower and middle
abdomen. Tummy tucks, technically called Abdomnioplasty, also tightens the
muscles of the abdominal wall.
